Is it a good time to be a property agent?

2020-09-16

If you are interested to become a property agent but indecisive to make the move due to the fear of failing and feeling uncertain over the prospect of the real estate industry, now is actually a good time to get started.

Here’s why:

1. New world, new demand

The COVID-19 has not only shaped a new norm in the way we live, but also the way businesses operates.

This has created a lot of opportunities for estate agents as many companies and businesses are looking at downsizing to a smaller commercial property or relocating to another location due to the growing work-from-home trend.

2. Market activity is expected to return in the near term

As the spread of the corona virus is being kept under control, businesses are resuming to normal and the property market is also seeing a return of tenants, landlords, buyers and sellers – many of whom were unable to get a deal done during the Movement Control Order period.

The market is also expected to enter an uptrend cycle as per the data and historical trend suggests.

According to the National Property Information Centre (NAPIC), the annual growth rate of the Malaysian House Price Index as well as market activity was able to rebound quickly after an economic crisis took place.

In fact, the transaction volume has been trending up from 2016 to 2019, signalling a recovery in the market.

3. Learn the hard lessons and come out stronger

It is no doubt that the times are very tough due to the impact from COVID-19. But many of those who learned the hard lessons at the beginning of their career actually came out stronger and better prepared for the next big economic shift or downturn.

More importantly, when people all around you are quitting, you have a better chance of succeeding and get a bigger piece of the pie.

4. An industry where there is a talent shortage

The real estate industry has always been facing the challenge of talent shortage, especially for real estate negotiators and agents.

It is estimated that the number of registered real estate negotiators and agents in Malaysia stands at slightly more than 20,000 and 2,000, respectively.

Meanwhile, there are millions of populations in the country needing their service. They could be first time homebuyer, upgraders, senior citizens looking to downsize their home, expatriates searching for short-term stay, or institutional investors hunting for commercial assets.

And fret not if you are worrying about getting your foot in the door as PropNex Malaysia provide a wide array of training programs and regular workshops and seminars to assist our colleagues in succeeding in the market and building a lifelong career in the industry.
